A-to-Z Reflection [2014]

I found out about the A to Z Challenge mere days before it began. Should I do it? Why, Yes! Why wouldn’t I fall recklessly into a public challenge I’m quite unprepared for?

My reason for taking the challenge:

I’m trying to figure out what kind of blogger I am, and a challenge to blog EVERY SINGLE (almost) DAY would surely push my subconscious forward to teach me what my favorite themes are.

You see, I’ve blogged for years at a group blog called Routines for Writers. We started out as three aspiring novelists who felt we were best qualified to talk about how to find the time, and develop the routines to actually write. Hence our tag line: helping writers write more. We would talk about one topic, three ways. It was focused, and we knew who are target market was.

But now that I have a book deal, I need to span out from targeting writers and find my readers.

What did I like about the challenge?

  1. I liked the variety of posts I got to read. You never knew what you would get that day until you clicked! It was fascinating to see all the different topics one letter could generate. So much fun.
  2. I liked having a reason to leave a comment. Often, it’s hard to leave that first comment on a blog, and I don’t always have something to say. But, being that we were all in on a challenge, it made it much easier to say something.
  3. I “met” some interesting people and found many interesting blogs! There are several that I plan to go back to.

What surprised me the most?

The feeling of camaraderie with fellow bloggers around the world.

What was my most visited day?

April 10: I is for Inspiration

How could the challenge be improved?

If those who drop out early would let the organizers know to pull their names from the list.

Would I take the challenge again?

Yes! Thanks to the team at A to Z Blogging Challenge for a crazy-fun April.
