When I looked at Erin Leigh’s Day 6 I figured this needed it’s own post, because I was calling in some YouTube backup. Today in Erin’s 31 Days of Scripture Art Journaling she is adding scraps of paper with a gel medium. (And by gel medium, I hope she means glue, because that’s all I have.)
If you click through to her blog she gives step-by-step photos of starting with blobs of water color, adding bits of paper, then filling in details and adding words with a pen. So cute.
And, it takes some thought. Now, instead of random doodling, we are stepping into the world of design. So I go to Youtube for inspiration and found these:
Spring Branches:
Tags using stamps for those of us drawing and doodle-challenged (a good mid-step while I work on my drawing skills.)
And I’m still watching for inspiration. I’m off to a graduation party, but hopefully by tonight I’ll have completed day 6 of the challenge.
Day 6: Playing with Paper
For this one, I photocopied the prologue from my novel Cinderella’s Dress, and then cut out pieces to look like leaves. My watercolors were on the light side, so I added bright scrap paper leaves. This was a fun challenge, but it took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do. I like this mixed media idea and discovered this whole world of online demos. I really want to get a water paintbrush like in that first video above so I can use my watercolor pencils. And I really want to learn some cool lettering techniques! I may repeat this index card at the end of the month to try to do a better job.
