SPINDLE by Shonna Slayton for web

In a world where fairies lurk and curses linger, love can bleed like the prick of a finger

Briar Rose knows her life will never be a fairy tale. She’s raising her siblings on her own, her wages at the spinning mill have been cut, and the boy she thought she had a future with has eyes for someone else. Most days it feels like her best friend, Henry Prince, is the only one in her corner…though with his endless flirty jokes, how can she ever take him seriously?

When a mysterious peddler offers her a “magic” spindle that could make her more money, sneaking it into the mill seems worth the risk. But then one by one, her fellow spinner girls come down with the mysterious sleeping sickness…and Briar’s not immune.

If Briar wants to save the girls―and herself―she’ll have to start believing in fairy tales…and in the power of a prince’s kiss.

The tour is hosted by Chapter By Chapter.

Book launch day is so much fun for authors. All those months of working in secret are finally revealed. Cinderella’s Dress and Cinderella’s Shoes were a joy to write and hope you are caught up in the 1940s history and the fairy-tale magic that is Cinderella as you read them.

Going on now is a blog tour where you can read some excerpts, learn some behind-the-scenes tidbits about the story, and there will even be an opportunity for you to show your favorite pair of shoes!

The main blog tour list is posted on my Home page. As I have links I will update them. And before you go, sign up for my monthly newsletter to get all the behind-the-scenes reveals that I don’t talk about anywhere else. (Sign-ups are on the right-hand sidebar.)

Blog Tour Giveaway:

Along the tour is a Rafflecopter giveaway of a paperback copy of the first book in the series, Cinderella’s Dress, along with my newest obsession, the CD Soundtrack from the Disney Cinderella Movie. Go enter! Live links are here:

The book launch tour is over, but you can still visit these websites for

Final day on the tour. We’ve got a darling review and an excerpt.

You know, one of my takeaways from this tour is all the book blogs I’ve been introduced to. As a writer, I’ve generally spent all my computer time visiting author sites. My eyes have been opened to the world of book blogging. The only thing is, my TBR pile is going to be even bigger now!

Thank you book bloggers for spreading the word about the books we all love.

Only one more day left in the blog tour. Last night I started getting ready for the After the Tour Tell All Google On Air Hangout that I’m going to do with my editor Stacy Abrams. Turns out I had some technical glitches and my husband and I played around with some things trying to make it work as smoothly as all the Youtube videos say it does. Part of the learning curve is that Google has changed many of the settings, so if you are watching an older how-to, not everything is accurate anymore. I had to create a new event because I did the first one as a regular hangout instead of a Hangout-On Air. We’ll be flying by the seat of our pants! RSVP and watch the fun here:

And on to today’s stops. First up is a review: “A fun, twist on the classic Cinderella tale that is sure to appeal to fans of lighter fantasies. Be prepared to be swept away!”

Si se peude Yes you can

And a guest blog post where I talk about the writing process behind Cinderella’s Dress. From the story sparks, to the first draft, to publication.

My newsletter went out last night. If you are signed up and didn’t get it, it’s because your email bounced. You might want to add me to your approved list: “newsletter [at] shonnaslayton.com” And if you haven’t signed up, what are you waiting for? The signup is over there on the sidebar. The newsletter comes out once a month and I give you exclusive behind-the-scenes content as well as recent YA buzz.

Today on the blog tour there is a review at Creating Serenity: “I would say if you’re curious get the book because it is different but don’t think fantasy, think historical WWII times with lots of dancing and men leaving their families and people worried about harboring Jews. Going into it with that mindset may have helped me.” LOL, well, you can’t please ’em all. Check out the rest of the review here:

And an interview where I talk about how I find vintage teen diaries for my research.

I won a blue ribbon today at my Toastmasters meeting! They awarded me the day’s “Spark Plug” or Enthusiasm award. Such an encouraging bunch, they were proud of my launch party speech and happy that I zipped through my table topics questions today so we got in a lot of speakers. If you have any qualms about public speaking, I highly recommend Toastmasters. It’s not easy, but you’ll learn and you’ll be encouraged. And now on to the blog tour. Today I talk about the ups and downs of writing a fairy-tale retelling: addicted readers

And a review: “What was interesting with Cinderella’s Dress is that it takes a new spin on the story intertwining it with a Polish background and theme. “

I’m still catching my breath from Phoenix Comicon. Everyone is asking me how it went and my go-to answer is “overwhelming.” It was just huge. I read somewhere they were expecting 75,000 people. That is more than my hometown plus all the other little surrounding towns put together. I’ll post about it later, but for now, it’s on with the blog tour where we have a Review and an Interview!

“I was surprised by this book. I was expecting a story based solely on Cinderella but this book isn’t.”

And an interview where I talk about the title and the beautiful cover:

Ever wonder what goes on behind-the-scenes to bring a book to market? Here is your chance to see debut author Shonna Slayton meet with Entangled Teen’s executive editor Stacy Abrams LIVE to talk about the journey of the YA novel Cinderella’s Dress from query letter to published novel. It’s a Google Hangout on Air, and you can be a part of it.

RSVP here: After The Book Tour.

The Google Hangout on Air is scheduled for Friday, June 13 at 11:00am PST.

Again, you can RSVP here: After The Book Tour.

If you have any questions for Shonna or Stacy, leave them in the comments section. Stacy says she is up for ANYTHING.

Halfway there and this weekend is Phoenix Comicon. Come by and visit me at my signing table. There was a shipping snafu with the bookstore, so you’ll have to bring your own if you want one signed. Local indie Changing Hands sold out during my launch party  (Wahoo!) but B&N has a few in stock. I’ll have postcards and bookmarks on hand. And possibly chocolate. Can’t guarantee I won’t be eating it all.

Today we have a lovely review: “I loved the characters, from Kate’s shy demeanor to her best friend Josie’s bubbly and exciting personality. Adalbert’s quiet strength in the face of his wife’s dementia, and Elsie’s quirks. And Johnny…sa-woon.” That last part made me laugh. Johnny would like this description of himself.

And the second stop has an excerpt where you will meet quirky Aunt Elsie. So, blog hop away, and be sure to enter the contest!

I had so much fun at my book launch party at Changing Hands Tuesday night. We had a nice crowd and sold out of books! My friend Kathy, along with her daughter, and my daughter put together the most beautiful cupcake pull-apart dress cake. Pictures forthcoming.

Meanwhile, check out the next two stops on the blog tour. One is a four star review and the other is an interview where I’m asked what fairy tale I would want to be in. Remember to enter the giveaway:
