I get so much more done when I’m in a contest, so when I saw Wishful Endings’ Tackle your TBR Read-a-Thon, I started sorting through my half-read books (got a bazillion on the go) and picked several that I’m determined to finish by the end of the challenge. If I get to more, all the better! Interested in joining? Click on over to her website and sign up on the linky list.
My TBR for the Challenge:
The Begotten by Lisa T. Bergren– this one is for book club, so I need to finish this before the others. FINISHED
Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson– going for this one next because it seems like a quicker read than my other picks. It has been on my TBR pile for many moons and somehow keeps landing further down the pile.
A Tailor Made Bride by Karen Witemeyer–I’ve been reading this one in small snatches on my itouch and really want to sit down and finish it already! FINISHED
I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith–I’m not quite halfway through this one, and seem to be reading it in spurts, and then forgetting the characters and having to refresh before moving forward. I need to get myself a cup of tea and go for it.
UPDATED list: Princess Academy: The Forgotten Sisters by Shannon Hale–I hadn’t intended to add another book, bu this one was in the car when I was waiting to pick up one of my kids on the first day of the challenge, and you know, when you’ve got a couple minutes to spare….so I’m counting this in my challenge.
And another: Victorian Secrets FINISHED
Daily Update:
Monday 9/14:
The Begotten: p 242 of 367
Princess Academy: The Forgotten Sisters: p.??? (it’s in the car, but I probably read 10 pages)
Tuesday 9/15:
Wintergirls p.50 of 278. This one made me think of a book I read when I was a teen called Goodbye Paper Doll…checking to see if it’s still in print…yes, by Anne Snyder. I meant to finish The Begotten before switching to another book, but I left it downstairs last night and didn’t want to disturb my daughter who was “camping out” in our living room.
Wednesday 9/16:
A Tailor Made Bride: at 48% by the end of my dentist visit.
The Begotten: p. 259 of 367
Thursday 9/17:
The Begotten: p.334 of 367 Being so close to finishing this one I almost stayed up late, but decided to finish it on Friday.
Princess Academy: The Forgotten Sisters (still in the car, got a few pages read)
Friday 9/18:
The Begotten: Finished!
Weekend:
A Tailor Made Bride: Finished!
Wintergirls: p.98 of 278
Victorian Secrets: Oops, started a new book! This is a non-fiction, memoir-like book about a modern girl who dresses like a Victorian, and this focus of this book is about the corset. (doing research for my next book, set in the late 1800s)
Monday/Tuesday/Wed:
Oh, my plans took a hit this week. My TBR pile had to take a back seat to a bunch of author-business getting ready for Cinderella’s Shoes book launch in 11 days. 11 days!
Victorian Secrets: 53%
Thursday 9/24:
Princess Academy: The Forgotten Sisters: p.116 of 324
Final Weekend:
Victorian Secrets: FINISHED
Princess Academy: the Forgotten Sisters: p. 151 or 324
Summary: During the TBR challenge I finished 3 books; picked up two books that weren’t on my list (no self-discipline!) and made a good dent in the other two. Fun challenge, Tressa! I’ll add this challenge to my calendar for next year.
Tressa plans for this to be fun, not stressful, so your goals are your own. Here is the schedule for the fun bits:

Hi Shonna! I may have to add your Cinderella books to my TBR list. They sound intriguing–especially since your ideas come from vintage diaries. Wow! Have fun with the read-a-thon.
Janet, so far I’ve read 0 pages, but hoping to get some time in tonight. No diaries in my TBR pile at the moment, though…might have to go shopping 😉
Lovely to meet you, Shonna. I get more done with a target, too 🙂
Looks like you have 4 good books selected. Best of luck!
Thanks!
Shonna, you’ve got some great goals and some great books on your list! Good luck!!
Good luck on the readathon! I’ve been meaning to read Wintergirls for a while. It sounds so interesting 🙂
Wintergirls is my plan for Sunday.
What a great idea to finish half-read books for the challenge! I have got more read this week than I have in one week in months! I love this read-a-thon and can’t believe I haven’t participated in it before!
Yes, when you start with half-finished books, the challenge should be easier, right?
Tailor-Made Bride is one of my favorite historical Christian romances. I just love all the witty dialogue and chemistry. I hope you’re enjoying it and your other books!
You’re right, the dialogue is witty! I am enjoying it.
